Aside from my main research responsibilities, my favorite part about working at OSIEA (The Open Society Initiative of East Africa, which is the East African office for the Open Society Insitute) is the unique opportunities that present themselves. Yesterday, after just saying good morning to the Acting Director of Human Rights Watch, Nairobi Office (also located within my office), I was invited to attend a press conference for the release of a new report. The report, entitled "Welcome to Kenya: Police Abuse of Somali Refugees," stimulated great discussion amongst members of the press, author Gerry Simpson, and the deputy police spokesperson whose appearance resulted in an impromptu speech and police Q&A session. For the full report, check out: http://www.hrw.org/en/reports/2010/06/17/welcome-kenya-0. (I can't figure out how to download pics from my phone, so unfortunately it's another pictureless entry...)
Now it's time almost time for the weekend! I've been feeling a little under the weather, so I think I'll spend it snuggled up in bed!
